I jumped off a bridge today

I jumped off of the Stari Most (Bosnian for ‘Old Bridge’) in Mostar, Bosnia-Hercegovina today. I became the 117th foreigner to jump since the bridge was reconstructed in 2004. The bridge is 27 meters high which is about 80something feet I think.
I did a few practice jumps from a 12 meter platform and was coached on my technique and form. I made a few corrections…the biggest was to put my arms by my side instead of above my head. I wore myself out swimming against the current to climb back on land to jump again, but after 4 jumps I was ready to make the plunge.
I made the jump and I’ll be damned if I totally forgot the proper technique and put my arms above my head when I splashed down. Oh well. I hurt my back a bit, but I survived the jump :)

When we got back to the hostel, there was a celebration meal waiting for us of meats, cheeses, pastries and a traditional Bosnian liquor called Rijeka. What a great day!
