Quinta da Regaleira

Yesterday I took a day trip to a town called Sintra about 30 minutes outside of Lisboa. It is known as the pride of Portugal, and it did not disappoint.

Its a charming small town that has some historical wonders. There is a castle dating back to the 8th century that I didn’t check out.

I did however, have the pleasure of seeing Quinta da Regaleira, an estate built between 1904 and 1910. Full of caves, labrynths and wells, the estate was designed to be a “synthesis of the spiritual memory of mankind” and is “deeply rooted in the Universal and Portuguese Mythical Traditions.”

Anywhere that is not roped off is open to exploration. One of the truely unique experiences I’ve had on this trip.
